Teenage Mental Health: Can Hypnosis Work for Teenagers and Children?

teenagers hypnosis dublin teenage mental health

The Teenage Years are pivotal in a person’s life. It can be seen as the first level of how or what you grow up to be. It has very little to do with the profession or career. But it plays a major role in moulding your personality and shaping you to become your future self.

Hypnosis works at the subconscious level where a lot of the emotional issues lie. These may be triggered by certain factors causing anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia and negative thoughts. Hypnosis/hypnotherapy, along with our unique. multi-therapy approach can bypass the conscious level and resolve at the core.

Counselling and other therapies can help, but it may not necessarily resolve the issue. Hypnosis is fast and effective, providing permanent results. This is why it is climbing as an alternative approach to conventional therapy.

With that, we should consider how sensitive and open this age group is towards different types of mental illnesses. Today, mental illness is one of the biggest challenges faced by the world. Unfortunately, teenagers are its main victims, especially in Europe where approximately 1 in 5 teens suffer from one mental disease. Teenagers are endangered by illnesses and disorders such as depression, anxiety, borderline personality, and attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), which in serious cases can lead to suicidal thoughts.

How does social media affects teenager’s mental health?

According to research, the root cause of most mental disorders among teens is social media. Statistics show that teenagers spend a minimum of four hours per day scrolling through social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. This contributes the most towards mental disturbances.

How so? Take ADHD, for example. Teens are most exposed to this disorder, and they become even more affected when they spend hours on social media and stay isolated in the real world.

Another reason teenage mental health is so prevalent is due to FOMO (fear of missing out). Teens want and NEED to stay updated with the latest trends. These updates and trends are posted online constantly.

This endless scrolling then leads to sleep deprivation and other dangerous stages like depression and social anxiety. At the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre, we specialise in using Hypnosis to communicate with the subconscious mind, resolving underlying issues from the core. We work with clients every day who deal with anxiety and panic attacks in a variety of forms and severities. Working at the unconscious level, we can bypass all of the baggage and get straight to the core issue.

Insomnia and other sleeping issues are something Caitríona and Fiachra have incredible success in. Many of our clients have suffered from Insomnia for many years, many taking sleeping medication for years. Our programmes resolve the subconscious issues, allowing them to be back in control of their sleep. Read our reviews or FAQs for more information or get in touch!

How do teenagers feel when they are suffering from mental health issues?

In serious cases, a person who has a mental illness can be a threat to themselves and others around them. The worst scenario is when the teenagers feel hesitant or humiliated in seeking help from professionals or elders.

The most common symptom to recognise such a situation is when there is a decline in the academic results of the teen. This is not always a factor (which is why parenting is so difficult at times!).

Apart from this, the kid may feel restless most of the time and may suffer from insomnia or hypersomnia (in minor cases). While some teens mask their condition pretty well, most of them may show persistent sadness, anxiety and irritability in front of family and friends. Losing interest in hobbies and constant fatigue are other red flags that indicate mental illness.

What can parents do to help their teenager’s mental health?

Parents are the first few to get hints of the mental disorder among their children. The best thing they can do to help their teen is to talk to them where possible about their misery and complications.

Although it can seem impossible to draw information out of your teen at times, it is worth trying. It is also important to attempt to spend time with their teens to develop trust.

Parents facing such a situation with their teen can also consult a therapist. Teenagers, and people in general, are becoming much more open to seeing therapists today. This is a massive change in society and will hopefully continue to be encouraged. Hypnosis is fast and effective and does not require long-term counselling. Hypnotherapy is growing as a treatment for mental health issues, and rightly so!

Another way to help mental illness is by cutting off the root cause, which in most cases is social media. Using parental control where appropriate, or limiting screen time is the best precaution you can take at the early stages of your child’s teenage.

How important is mental health in teenagers?

Mental health plays a vital role in building your personality base, specifically among teens. Therefore, it is mandatory to care for your teen’s mental health and make sure to discuss their life with them at every stage. Showing support without being too nosy and strict, being lenient, motivating (not pushing), and being friendly are some measures you can take to avoid your teen from getting affected by mental health-related issues.

I reached out to the Caitríona to help me address feelings of not reaching my potential and imposter syndrome. While I was skeptical, I remained hopeful for change, and I feel I’ve made real breakthroughs in overcoming these issues. The in-person sessions were conducted in a comfortable setting that put me at ease. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre

I came to Fiachra with Long Covid! for 5 years I had Chronic fatigue, muscle weakness, brain fog plus other less impactful symptoms. Having had many relapses, I had developed a strong fear of ending up in bed again if I pushed myself to do even low level tasks. Fiachra gave me to tools to deal with this plus to deal with all the other little fears we all have in our daily lives. This coupled with whatever he changed in my subconscious and the excellent, unconditional back up calls, makes me think that this is the best money I spent on my quest for a return to health from Long Covid. If you have chronic fatigue, for any reason I would highly recommend. Thank you Fiachra.

I went to the to the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre because I was anxious about giving a speech at a wedding The therapist, Caitríona, was warm and welcoming. She spoke with great positivity and certainty. She assured me that the anxiety around public speaking would be addressed and managed. This would give me the freedom to deliver my speech in the way i wanted to. In total i had three consultations with Caitríona. After each session I felt incrementally more empowered and calm. This allowed me to focus on the content and emotions i wanted to relay. Caitríona also gave me a range strategies to employ if I felt my anxiety begin to re-emerge. We practised these together and they were a great source of comfort particularly as i got closer to the date of the wedding. The wedding was a wonderful occasion. During my speech I felt confident and was able to embrace the whole experience. I could not have done this without the support of the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre.

I really recommend working with Fiachra. Right from the start, his dedication and genuine willingness to help were amazing. He’s incredibly attentive, and I always felt really listened to during our sessions. He helped me see that there are different ways to think, look at things and process the world, which was huge for me—I don't feel so stuck anymore. On top of that, he helped me make progress pretty much straight away.

Went to Hypnosis and Therapy Centre as I was suffering bad with social anxiety and was feeling very low because of it. Had my sessions with Catríona who was lovely and made me feel very comfortable. I will have to be honest and say that after the first session I thought there is no way this is going to work for me,but I was proven wrong. By my third session I felt more positive, more confident and happier in myself. Thanks for that Catríona. It is also comforting to know I could call her in between sessions if I needed a bit of extra support. My husband has even noticed a difference in me. I,m so glad I went and would definitely recommend Hypnosis and Therapy Centre

I went to the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre to work on overcoming my limiting beliefs, and I had the pleasure of working with Fiachra throughout the process. Every session was incredibly valuable. Over the course of a couple of months, I gained a much deeper understanding of myself, how my mind works, and the beliefs that had been holding me back. By the end of my final session, I had far greater mental clarity, was thinking more positively and confidently, and had developed practical tools that I continue to use every day. I now feel genuinely excited about the future. Instead of holding myself back, I have the confidence to move forward and pursue the goals that matter to me. I can't recommend Fiachra and the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre highly enough. The experience has been truly invaluable, and I'm incredibly grateful for everything I learned.

The progress I made with Fiachra in 6 weeks makes the previous 2.5 years I spent in "talk therapy" feel like a complete waste of time. I felt I needed support in my daily life as I was really feeling unhappy but the last thing I wanted to do was go to therapy and open up old wounds, memories and traumas to relive them again in order to process why I feel the way I do... so I decided to try hypnosis. I was shocked to find out that reliving trauma is actually not necessary for effective treatment with hypnosis. This process has been so quick and literally life changing. Dealing with major life events and really struggling to adjust to parenting a disabled, autistic child, Fiachra has worked with me so that I not only enjoy what is required of me every single day, but I find joy and fun in things that would have previously overwhelmed me. I have no idea how he has done this because I thought my life was destined for misery and hardship. Then just to add in an extra little perk, he has managed to cure my sensory issues! I hated the sound of people eating (misophonia) , I felt physically sick... now I don't even register the sound at all. I never realised the impact it was having on me until it no longer had an effect on me at all. Honestly, I am so thrilled that I took the chance and tried something new. Everyone needs to do this! Trust me.

I highly recommend Fiachra who helped me with anxiety, particularly with flying after Lockdown. He was an absolute professional and the benefit of the sessions extended into all aspects of my life. He was a just a phone call away when needed. Could not recommend him highly enough.

I reached out to Fiachra because I was having a hard time with managing stress, anxiety, and ongoing mental health difficulties. I had previously attended psychotherapy, which I found beneficial to a certain point. I was unsure of what to expect as I had never engaged in hypnotherapy before. However, the positive outcome of my sessions has succeeded my expectations. I noticed changes occurring that had not happened during other therapeutic processes. Now, I am confident in managing my personal life and stressors. The quality of my thoughts have improved and I feel better able to regulate my emotions, and be present. I enjoyed the therapeutic approach and style. I would recommend the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre. Thank you, Fiachra, for the work that you do.

I can’t believe how far I’ve come working with Fiachra. I used to think constant worry and anxiety were just something I had to live with, but he helped me find a way out much sooner than I expected. The support has been straightforward and genuinely life-changing. If you're struggling, I can’t recommend him enough.

AW I got in touch because I was struggling with severe anxiety, which was presenting as physical symptoms (NES). I had a lot of anxiety and nervousness about doing things independently for fear of triggering an episode. Fiachra helped relieve that anxiety, and gave me lots of techniques to feel calm and more in control. I have now regained my confidence and independence, and can finally lead a typical life of a 19 year old! I still have episodes, but I deal with them in a much calmer way, and I don’t dread them happening because I know that I can deal with them. For this reason, I would strongly recommend The Hypnosis and Therapy Centre.

Very good experience really helped with the problems I had in my life just finished my 3rd session! Thanks so much Caitriona

After seeing several Counsellors in Canada after the death of my beloved husband Anthony I felt I was still in the same boat and nothing had changed for me. Then a good friend recommended Fiachra when I went back to Ireland for a visit. Fiachra was very professional and helpful and made me feel at ease. I am still feeling much pain but I still remember Fiachra’s insight into helping me move on with my life.

I’ve had an issue with misdirecting my emotions by engaging in negative behaviours ‘ the lads helped re-program my sub-conscious by helping me process past traumas directly linked to my actions.

I met Fiachra September the 2nd and from that moment on I have never looked back he has helped me so much with my problem and is so generous with his time I would highly recommend Fiachra as it is the best decision I have ever made thankyou hypnosis and therapy centre

I've recently been doing some work with Sarah Jane to help me with bruxism. What I really loved about the sessions is that Sarah Jane made it simple for me to understand the process and how it all works. I needn't have worried - I found the sessions to be very calming and I've also learned some invaluable techniques that I can use myself.

I can’t recommend Fiachra highly enough. From our first call he instantly put me at ease, and from just the second session I noticed a huge shift in my perspective. He has a way of guiding you to trust your own instincts and approach things differently, which has been genuinely transformative. What’s really stood with me is how approachable and supportive he is - always keeping in touch and available whenever I needed to chat. A brilliant experience and I’m so grateful for his help. Thank you Fiachra!!

I recently did a series of sessions with Caitríona and could not recommend the Hypnosis & Therapy Centre enough. I had fallen into old patterns in the evening and wanted to break free from the guilty and shameful feelings it was leaving me with. Caitríona helped me to focus my energy elsewhere and to break the habit, all within 3 sessions. The freedom this has given me emotionally cannot be described: it is a lovely and exciting feeling to know I am setting a good example for my family and children. It has also had a domino effect elsewhere, where I have stopped procrastinating on big decisions work-wise and actually followed through with them. I would highly recommend.

Catríona has been fantastic over the three sessions & always been available to answer any texts or phone calls I may have needed throughout the week. Really professional service.

He has changed my outlook on life in so many ways. The whole experience so far has been amazing. Thank you Fiachra
Shauna M.
I found the whole experience fantastic and I noticed a difference from the very first session. Both Fiachra and Catriona were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They were approachable and kept in constant communication throughout the whole process. I would recommend them to anyone looking to change a certain aspect of their life.

A massive thank you to the Hypnosis and Therapy centre and to Fiachra. A fantastic experience and amazing benefits seen from the very first session. Fiachra’s level of knowledge and understanding is second to none & really works hard to make sure the benefits are experienced from the very start. I would highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again Fiachra for all your help and continued support.

Important points: How mental health can affect your life

Here are some talking points to remind us how Teenage Mental Health, along with mental health for children and adults alike, is actually an important stage in shaping our lives:

  • Good mental health develops resilience and helps to cope with the challenges of life. This can affect our quality of life at times. But when teenagers surpass the bad days, they can use that as motivation for the future hurdles of life
  • Mental health is co-related with productivity and financial stability, which affects our adulthood greatly
  • Most suicidal cases are directly linked with mental disorders, especially depression. Suicide is more prevalent in males, but it is indeed vital to nurture anyone who is suffering from mental issue issues. Hypnotherapy/Hypnosis is extremely efficient and effective in this regard. The Hypnosis and Therapy Centre has helped countless clients since 2004 who battle anxiety, depression, confidence, stress and other mental health related issues. Our Free Phone Consultation can provide guidance and information if you want to resolve your issues and get back in control of your life
  • Mental Health affects physical health greatly. Some people face eating disorders during this time. They also can stop all physical activity. Putting on weight is not necessarily the issue here. It is the health of your organs that is also important to focus on when physical activity is not part of your life. Activity releases positive endorphins in your brain, which aids your mental health! A lot of people turn to physical activity and sports. This improves their mental health, then use therapy to guide them through
  • Mental Health issues can also negatively affect your relationships, be it family, friends or more intimate relationships. Relationships go up and down (and side to side!). This is a normal part of life, but can be exacerbated by teenage mental health issues
  • Mental health issues can lead to smoking, drinking, panic attacks, other addictions, sleeping issues and other physical ailments. It is important that our mental health is consistently worked on and managed. Here is a list of services we treat at the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre

Mental health is something we all deal with, and have dealt with!

The Teenage Years are something we all go through. If you look back at your childhood and compare to all the crazy things you went through, you turned out okay (or at least alive!). It is very normal to go through turbulence at this age, be it emotions, hormones or mental health related. Keep this in mind when worrying about your teenager’s mental health. They may just be going through a tough time, they may not need professional help. Be there for them and guide them through this time.

If in doubt, speak with them. If you can’t, reach out to someone who can. Or indeed you can get in touch with the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre.

Feel free to read our reviews to see how much of a positive impact we have had on their lives in just a few sessions. We also have a number of blog articles which may be of interest and related to this such as “Overcome Anxiety and Bring Calm to your Life” , “Boost Your Self-Confidence” and “How to Fall Asleep Fast Using Hypnosis”.
