Mental health and working in the midst of the pandemic
As we approach December 2021, today’s situation deprives most people of normal freedom and comfort with the usual day to day things. Working from home suits a lot of people, but it can be quite the opposite for a number of scenarios.
The pandemic did not only bring physical and physiological health issues, but it also affected the mental and psychological health of most people in some way.
COVID’s greatest impact is that it has changed the natural scope of how the world works, the people’s perceptions, and the corresponding stability of interaction and engagement. There are difficulties created through the new protocols and the new normal flow of transactions. This extended the scare and discouragement to people to work outside of their homes.
Various changes have abruptly and suddenly surprised people that are way beyond their ability to handle. As a result of this, people went distressed, exploited, and exhausted with the undesired event.
At the Hypnosis and Therapy Centre, Caitríona and Fiachra have worked with countless clients suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress and chronic mental health issues. The numbers have steadily increased since the beginning of the pandemic.
We offer a Complimentary Breakthrough Session where we identify the core issue. We then work at the subconscious level using Hypnosis and our unique multi-therapy approach to manage and eliminate this feeling, allowing you to regain control.
Hypnosis for Mental Health
Due to the pandemic, there has been a change in security and safety working outside of our homes. People are scared to go out and speak or have contact with other people. This has naturally had immense mental and emotion strain.
Anxiety, panic attacks, and stress all have negative effects on our mental health, along with our emotional capacity to concentrate at work.
Typically, all types of working environments and conditions are already draining and straining to most employees. The clients, bosses, errands, backlogs, etc. These stressors are even increased due to the health protocols and restrictions in the workplace which defined a worst-case scenario when employees went returning to work and office spaces after the lockdowns and strict quarantines.
How has the pandemic affected our mental health?
- Several effects of the pandemic have lead neurological complications that can result in delirium and agitation. With the increasing declinations to people’s health, there is no doubt that these harsh physical affects exacerbate worries, anxieties, and fears.
- Working outside of homes increased the anxiety of the people. Catching the virus and other symptoms of COVID may give them more expenses in health care and medicines. This no doubt adds strain to many families that cannot afford expensive medications or indeed to be taking time off work if they are bed-ridden.
- New protocols and structures have introduced new patterns of workflow which many people find difficult to handle and are beyond their capabilities. Especially since everything is online, people who are not familiar with technology can find it overwhelming. They feel out of depth and alone which has serious negative effects on their mental health.
- The unstable conditions of livelihood in these times are felt by people because lockdown and bankruptcy of companies could happen anytime. The insecurity and instability of people’s employment had them thinking of their future. The emotions that people get out of this affected their performance at work.
Nonetheless, the above-mentioned causes of mental health imbalance can be seen. Resilience has been shown and is continuing to be needed in these times because of the sudden changes. The scare of COVID in the workplace is a normal effect that impacts mental health at work. This is because we feel the emotions of fear, anxiety, and avoidance.
When these feelings become overwhelming, our mental health can suffer. Feel free to read our other blogs about how to manage anxiety and panic attacks!
How to Help Your Mental Health
Here are some steps you can do yourself to prevent being overwhelmed at work:
- Focus on a better work-life balance – This includes taking longer breaks to talk and check in with your family. Organise a coffee or lunch together. Take those extra few minutes where time allows. Is it the end of the world if you are a few minutes late after lunch?
- Allow time to meditate and relax during the day. This is one of the luxuries that may be more open to you now that you are out of the office. Stretch, take breaks often and make sure to get some fresh air in the garden! This allows you time to rest and will also boost the immune system
- Make sure to take time off. Even if you are not going away, it is always nice to take time to do nothing! Don’t save all of your holidays until after COVID. Use them up and spread them out the days! Even if it means just having lie-ins and doing some much needed work around the house!
Through cooperation and compassion, we can surpass this pandemic, as long as we care for each other. We must continue to be sensitive and provide full understanding and acceptance.
